She Who Remembers

Everyone from the nosiest gossiping housewife to the most innocent child on their bicycle wants to know what is in the house at the end of the road. It isn't really a house, however, more a run down shack. The weeds tangle up the sides and the roofing dangles off by threads. Bits of trash litter the yellow grass while the shutters slope to and fro in the slightest of breezes. The doors are rusty and the windows fogged and dirtied to the point of being unable to see through.

That is where She lives.

Follow up:

She is the One Who Can Remember. She rests under the rickety floorboards during the day, only the smallest of sunshine leaking through the dirty windows and rotting woods. She protects Her house and Her life from the curious of the curious, those who intend to sell the land, those who want to see what is inside and those who are just wandering by.

She also protects Her burden. What is this burden, so great She must waste away, but never truly waste away, under rotting wood, just above the dirt and maggots? She is the One Who Can Remember. Her title, while in the most terrible worlds and underworlds is revered, if those of this world knew why She had such a name...they would go mad, and they would end their life. She is the historian of the Legends, the one who protects them for She knows where they all are. She could easily tell you where they were, what their strong suits were, and what the chinks in their armor were. The weak points, the most effective weapons, everything. She knows all about the Legends, as many as there are.

Her burden is that of promise. The unbreakable promise that She made many years before Jesus, the first pharaoh to ever grace the Nile and just before the very first ape stood upright. Promise to never leave the Legends, to document what they have done and what they will do, to never tell another soul. She is doomed to do this for many, many years to come. Your great grandchildren's great-great-great grandchildren will not see the end of Her.

For She is the One Who Can Remember. When She dies, the release of being one with the Earth as she once was, the Legends will rise.
